A York landlord has compiled a history of his popular pub, which dates back to 1798 and which has stood tall throughout wars and pandemics.

Blue Bell York

Using a stunning collection of original photographs, eye-witness accounts, and recently-discovered historical artifacts, current tenant John Pybus delves deeply into the history of The Blue Bell.

John and multiple generations of the pub’s regulars as take the reader on a journey from the pub’s humble beginnings all the way through to its current status as a national treasure.

Not only is it a love letter to a beautiful little pub and the characters that have resided in it, but also a social history with lessons to be learnt for all our nation’s public houses.

While Britain’s pubs are under threats never before encountered, The History of The Blue Bell is a reminder that once we lose our pubs, we lose a part of our shared cultural heritage, and how above all else, we must fight to keep them at the centre of our communities.

The book is available in the pub, or email bluebellyork@gmail.com for details of how to get a copy sent.
