Sharp’s Brewing Co has announced that its surf-inspired Offshore Pilsner is being made available in six- and ten-can multipacks in shops from the end of April.
Since launching in 2018, the beer has become a favourite across the UK and has risen to become the best-selling discovery lager — defined as a smaller, unique, premium lager brand — in the South West.
This anticipated launch comes in Sharp’s 30th anniversary year. Since the brewery was founded in 1994, it has become the largest brewer of cask beer in the South West and boasts a range of multi-award-winning beers.
“Being based here on the Cornish coast, myself and many of the team are keen surfers,” said James Nicholls, marketing controller at Sharp’s. “We created our Offshore Pilsner to celebrate those amazing days when the wind turns offshore, creating the amazing clean waves that we all love so much.
“We know Offshore Pilsner has proven a hit with consumers across the country since launching in pubs and bars in 2018, and we’re excited to carry this momentum into the retail space and give drinkers even more access to this ‘discovery’ beer.”
Meanwhile, Sharp’s strong bitter Sea Fury has won a bronze medal in one of the cask ale categories at the International Brewing and Cider Awards. The beer takes its inspiration from the stormy Atlantic seas that crash into the rugged Cornish coast during the long, dark winter.
It was first brewed in 1996 as Sharp’s Special to satisfy demand from local fishermen for a stronger ale to enjoy after long and often perilous stints at sea. With its inviting roasted and dark berry notes and full malt and berry taste, it’s a great example of the special bitter style.
“By all accounts the judging process was one of the toughest this year, so we are honoured to come away with a medal awarded by a phenomenal judging panel, who we all admire greatly,” said head brewer Aaron McClure.
