Pubs throughout Britain can expect to see an Easter boost, with 11 million more pints expected to be ordered this bank holiday weekend.
It will provide more positive news for the sector, after a combination of the Six Nations’ ‘Super Saturday’ and St Patrick’s Day also saw a large increase of sales. More than 27m pints were sold over that busy weekend.
As a result of the bumper long weekend, pubs can expect that Easter boost to result in a turnover of £51m, coming at an important time for the sector as business costs continue to rise.
“Bank holiday weekends provide consumers the opportunity to relax, catch up with friends, and enjoy the holiday atmosphere, with no place better to do that than at the pub over a pint,” said Emma McClarkin, chief executive of the British Beer and Pub Association.
“Having a boost in sales of 11m extra pints will be welcomed by the whole sector after a tough period post-Christmas, something that will be replicated in the coming months as the clocks go forward this weekend and the days grow longer with pub-friendly sunny weather and a great summer of sport on the horizon.”
