The pub was nominated for its exceptional local cask ale offer, its hospitality, and other qualities, such as a ‘gorgeous, traditional interior’ and a well-regarded food menu.

Owner and landlord Rob Muirhead took the helm of the pub in 2014, celebrating a decade of service in January of this year. “We are delighted to receive this recognition from CAMRA,” he said.

“We have always prided ourselves on our real ales, and to receive this award is a privilege and an honour.”

Jared Ward, chairman of Mid-Chilterns CAMRA, said: “I am very excited to announce The King’s Arms as our champion pub of the year.

“Congratulations to Rob, now in his second decade of ownership, and to [manager] Gavin and the team for their unwavering dedication to hospitality and real ale.”

The Rising Sun, in Berkhamsted, was named cider pub of the year, The Red Lion, in Dagnall, is community pub of the year, and The Bell, Tring, won the award for best newcomer.

A special commendation was given to Clint Whitaker, former owner and landlord at the Monks Inn, in Hemel Hempstead, for dedication to cask beer, real cider, and community values.
