Manchester-based Joseph Holt brewery is enjoying seasonal success with its chestnut coloured Christmas beer, Date With Santa.

Date With Santa

The beer is so named after its hint of fruity dates. “We wanted to create a beer that conjured up the taste of Christmas in a glass – and dates, being a dried fruit, are closely linked to that seasonable taste,” said head brewer, Phil Parkinson. “It gives a real puddingy hit.

“Date With Santa  balances this caramel sweetness with star anise and warming allspice, all of which conspires to create a memorable Yuletide beer.”

Archaeological evidence suggests dates have been used to enhance beers since the days of the ancient Egyptians.

The Joseph Holt brewery has been in the same family for six generations, and next year it will celebrate its 175th anniversary. However, despite its long history, alongside brewing its longstanding and award-winning traditional beers, there’s always scope, says for new and seasonal choices, said marketing manager, Paul Longmire.

“With our festive creation, you’ll taste the essence of smoky yuletide joy. So, if you’re ready to step into Christmas with a brew that’s as quirky and delightful as the man of the season, then a Date With Santa is your perfect match.”
