Hobsons Brewery is celebrating a silver medal in CAMRA’s champion bottled beer of Britain competition — for the second year in a row.

Hbsons Brewery Dhustone Stout

Dhustone stout has stood the test of time and continues to be a top seller both in bottle and on draught across Shropshire and surrounding counties.

It has also won the Real Ale In a Bottle (RAIB) round of the CAMRA champion beer of Britain regional awards 2022, as well as regional gold at SIBA’s 2020 Digital Beer Awards.

The smooth dark stout has underlying liquorice notes and a smooth character, with aromas of chocolate and coffee, followed by a rich vanilla taste.

The name of the beer comes from dolerite, known locally as Dhu stone. This is quarried at Clee Hill, six miles away from the brewery. One of the villages built on Clee, specifically for quarry workers, was named Dhustone after the rock.

“Achieving silver at these awards is a real testament to the passion and dedication poured into each and every pint we craft,” said Nick Davis, founder of Hobsons Brewery. “And to do it two years on the bounce with the same beer is a massive achievement for a brewery of our size.

“This has been such a significant year for us, not only through continued award recognition, but also marking our 30th year in business. I am immensely proud of what we have achieved and I have no doubt there is much more award success to come!”

He added: “Events like the Great British Beer Festival are so important in this industry. Not only does it allow you to take stock in what you have achieved, but also to admire how diverse and progressive the industry has become. This year’s event was a day to remember and we hope to be pushing for gold next year.”
