North East-based mental health charity Men’s Pie Club will be celebrating two years of partnership with McColl’s Brewery on Saturday (15th July).
The charity, established in Sandyford, Newcastle, works to tackle social isolation and feelings of a lack of belonging among men. The pandemic has resulted in an increased prevalence of men’s mental health issues.
This is why, back in November 2020, Jamie Sadler, founder of Men’s Pie Club, and Danny McColl decided to collaborate to help raise awareness of the group and the great work it does, and to raise much-needed funds.
McColl’s Brewery’s partnership with Men’s Pie Club has flourished, with the brewery establishing its own Men’s Pie Club at its taproom in July 2021. It’s been a great success, and on Saturday they celebrate two years of the club at the brewery.
Since its creation, every fortnight for two years, local guys have been making pies at the brewery. They have also created a great close group of friends who now regularly meet to socialise and make pies.
McColl’s Brewery, based in Evenwood, near Bishop Auckland, has now raised £4,000 for Men’s Pie Club through the creation of an annual beer, Let’s Eat Pies and Talk About Men’s Mental Health. Ten pence from every pint and can sold is donated to the club. Released every January, McColl’s Brewery sees it as a staple beer in its annual release calendar and looks forward to working with Men’s Pie Club for the long term.
Danny McColl said: “It’s been a pleasure watching the group grow, from the early anxious days of setting the group up, to seeing friendships form and hearing blokes openly talk about what’s on their mind.”
