Sandford Orchards has launched Figgy Pudding Ice Cider (15% ABV), a limited edition, oak-aged ice cider steeped in dried fruit. It is being marketed as a festive English alternative to fortified wines.
Produced using English apples, dried fruit, and spices, it will be available from the end of October. The rich apple is wrapped in layers of Christmas aromatics, including clementine, cloves, allspice, and star anise. Each mouthful releases notes of caramel and mince pies.
“Our new limited edition Figgy Pudding Ice Cider is the perfect festive tipple,” said Barney Butterfield, chief cidermaker at Sandford Orchards. “Icing is a method used widely in wine-making, and we have introduced it to cider from our beautiful Devon orchards.
“During the specialist process, the cider apple juice becomes intensified, sweeter and richer. We have used dried fruit and spices to give this limited edition a fabulous festive twist.
“Figgy Pudding Ice Cider can be enjoyed as a luxurious aperitif or as a rich alternative to port, alongside your cheese course. We have also created a gift boxed bottle, complete with two brandy style serving glasses, which will make a very special Christmas gift.”
