With the cost-of-living crisis threatening to ruin both summer and the UK beer industry, Signal Brewery is launching a series of Pay Day Parties to keep spirits high in South London.

The UK’s brewing industry is in real crisis, due to soaring energy costs and consumers having less disposable income. In 2022, 80 UK breweries shut their doors, and it’s feared many more could close by the end of this year.

But Signal Brewery, on the border of the Croydon and Sutton boroughs, is taking a ‘glass half full approach to the current climate by launching a programme of fun, affordable events that includes monthly ‘Pay Day Parties’.

These willsee the taproom extend out onto the forecourt to become the go-to place for an affordable, quality, outdoor drinking experience in South London this summer.

Taking place on the last Saturday of each month, from noon until 7pm, tickets cost just £5 per person and include a free pint of beer and slice of Venti pizza on arrival.

Happy Hours will run between 1pm and 4pm, during which a pint of beer will cost £4. A 25% discount on all other drinks (including wine and spirits) will also run during these hours.

Free beer tastings, led by the expert Signal team, will take place throughout the day, giving guests the opportunity to learn more about, and sample, the range of beers brewed on site.

As Signal is also a small-batch producer of vodka, rum, and an award-winning gin, guests will also be able to enjoy cocktails throughout the day, while a DJ playing club classics will keep the party spirit flowing until the early evening.

“Having just scraped through the pandemic, skyrocketing energy and grain prices have now taken their toll on small, independent breweries like ours,” said Signal managing director, Charlie Luckin.

“But we’re determined to find our way through. A cold, fresh pint of beer is a British summer staple, and our new programme of events should ensure plenty of opportunities for locals to get together and enjoy a quality drinking experience at an affordable price over the coming months.”
