Theakston Brewery has announced that its popular Black Bull Bitter is returning — but be quick, because it will be around for June only.

Theakston Black Bull

First brewed more than 30 years ago, Theakston Black Bull is a 3.9% ABV amber bitter brewed with Challenger, Target, and Goldings hops. It offers a dry, crisp mouthfeel, and a pronounced citrus fruit flavour and aroma.

Despite having amassed a dedicated fanbase as a permanent brand over the years, Theakston Black Bull has not been brewed since the beginning of the pandemic.

However, throughout this month, it will be pouring again in a number of pubs and bars across the country, including at the Black Bull in Paradise, the brewery’s visitor centre in Masham. It will also be available online in five-litre mini-kegs.

“Ever since we made the difficult decision to reposition Theakston Black Bull as a seasonal cask ale during the pandemic, we have been inundated with requests to bring back this fan favourite,” said Theakston joint managing director, Simon Theakston.

“We’re delighted to finally reintroduce this beloved ale, for a limited time only, as part of our 2023 seasonal ale programme.

“Our almost 200 years of brewing heritage have offered us the opportunity to craft a great number of ales of distinction, and Theakston Black Bull is one of the best examples of our brewing expertise. We hope that all the dedicated fans of this wonderful beer will have the chance to enjoy a pint of it throughout June!”
