A host of hospitality heavyweights worked up a sweat yesterday on static cycles as an intrepid team on real bikes entered a second gruelling day of cycling in Sri Lanka.

Through the incredible effort of fundraisers in both Sri Lanka and back in the UK, organisers of Pedalling for Pubs have confirmed that total funds raised for industry charities Only A Pavement Away and the Licensed Trade Charity has now passed the £300,000 target.

Led by ride founder Katy Moses, of research consultancy KAM, cyclists on the flagship ride set off on Monday. They will be cycling across Sri Lanka from the west to east of the Asian island, covering nearly 500km of mountainous trails and roads over five days.

Back in London, hospitality big names took to static cycles at the newly-re-opened Admiralty pub, in London, to show their support. Among those taking part were chef Tom Aikens, Alun Cairns MP, head of the All-Party Parliamentary Beer Group, Kate Nicholls, chief executive of UK Hospitality, Steve Alton, chief executive of the BII, and Emma
McClarkin, chief executive of the British Beer and Pub Association.

Alongside KAM, supporting partners and sponsors include Airship/ Toggle, Barclaycard, the BII, Fleet Street Communications, Greene King, Lucky Saint, Punch Taverns, and Wireless Social.
