Amity Brew Co, in West Yorkshire, staged a big brew day this week to mark International Women’s Day, collaborating with The Coven on a dry-hopped saison.

Amity Galere

Amity stands for community, friendship, and good beer, which is exactly what this brew was all about.

As a female director of a brewery and not from a beery background, Verity Clarke wanted to host a brew day that was genuinely open to all, no matter how they identify or how much they know about beer.

Amity opened its doors to the local community and was delighted to see 35 people turn up across the day to get involved and learn more about brewing.

There were local artists and makers from within the mills where Amity is based, but also people from the beer industry, and students making multimedia content documenting the event.

The beer is a 6% ABV saison, with the recipe developed collaboratively by Amity and The Coven, an organisation which funds wellness officers to help make beer events safer for all. The name of the beer is Galère, meaning a group of people who have an attribute in common.

The ladders on the branding symbolise how everyone on the brew day supported each other, including holding the ladders for each other while mashing in. Suffragette colours of green, white, and purple have been used on the label.
