Lewes-based Bedlam Brewery has been purchased out of administration by some of its former directors. The company was in administration for less than ten days.

The administration was brought about by low revenue due to the pandemic and cost of living crisis, despite sales having improved last year.

A new company, Renatus Brewing, has been formed by the former directors and this has acquired the Bedlam brand and all of its stock.

In a statement, the new owners said: “We are optimistic any disruption will be minimal to our customers. We are determined to continue to produce our fabulous beer and service our loyal customers. Watch this space; our story is not over yet, it is just the end of this chapter.”

Bedlam took to crowdfunding twice in recent years and there has been anger on social media that the purchase now constitutes an abuse of the insolvency system.

“All directors of old co get jobs in new co and all SHs who gave Bedlam £1.76m shafted,” noted one commenter.
