The tickets are hidden inside the monthly Alsager Link magazine, sent out to the majority of Alsager households at the beginning of the month.

Golden ticket bearers will be able to use their prize throughout February at the Mere Inn pub, on Crewe Road, Alsager, in exchange for one free pint of their choice of any draught product available at the bar.

Ticket holders will also have an opportunity to win a £100 bar tab at the pub when cashing in their golden tickets, sharing their most creative photo to the pub’s Instagram and Facebook pages with the hashtag #MyMereGoldenTicket . The most creative photo chosen by the team at the end of the month will the big bar tab.

“It’s been a turbulent few years to say the least, but we adapted constantly throughout the pandemic and, with the help of the brewery, Joule’s, have invested heavily in our outside space,” said pub proprietor, Chris Charlesworth.

“Works included a solid oak pergola and booths, as well as a stretch tent, with all seating fully heated and lit so that the space can be enjoyed year round.

“We have a traditional pub with beautiful oak panelling, roaring log burners, and stained glass, but our offer is current, with live music and events now central to our offer. These are uncertain times and it’s no secret that our industry is under considerable pressure. But we’re feeling both determined and confident, so we wanted to start the year off with
a bang.”

He added: “We approached the brewery about doing a 1,000-pint giveaway and they loved the idea. Our thoughts are: if an existing customer receives a golden ticket through their door, it’s a thank you from us — and if a ticket lands with someone who isn’t familiar with the pub, then it will hopefully give them an incentive to give us a try.”

The Mere Inn is a traditional taphouse from craft brewery Joule’s. Undergoing an extensive restoration in 2012, the pub now reflects its Victorian roots, bringing back the snugs and cosy corners reminiscent of a quaint mid-Victorian parlour pub.

A heated and covered outside space further expands the pub’s capacity, and provides a beautiful garden area available to use year round — perfect to host the many events and live music gigs the Mere Inn is known for.

Always on tap are Joule’s Pale Ale, Slumbering Monk, Pure Blonde, and the brewery’s English craft lager Green Monkey, alongside a rotating seasonal ale and cold craft beer offering.
