Hebden Bridge-based Vocation Brewery has launched a series of 12 unique, one-off seasonal brews telling the story of one year through beer.
First off the line is Immortal Memory, a single malt barrel-aged wee heavy coming in at 11.5% ABV. It has this week’s Burns Night in mind. “A glimmer of merriment and light at the end of the long, gloomy tunnel that is January,” says the brewer.
Wee heavy is one of Scotland’s great beer styles and this one follows a traditional recipe. It has been aged for 13 months in Caol Ila barrels, which laces the strong, dark, and malty base beer with delicate notes of honeyed ginger, red berries, and a subtle seaweed salinity from the peat.
Also available now, and back because of popular demand, is Imperial Affogato, another brew that sits well in the ‘one for the dark evenings’ category.
The 10.7% ABV brew is an opulent, double-mashed coffee and vanilla imperial stout. Expect rich, full-bodied coffee flavours with sweet notes of vanilla.
