A unique barrel-aged imperial Baltic porter, a collaboration between a London brewer and a distiller based in the city, has gone on pre-sale.

Bimber casks

Brew By Numbers’ 100 BA Imperial Baltic Porter is a collaboration with award-winning London distillery Bimber.

Starting from grain which comes wholly from a single farm, Bimber’s malt is traditionally floor malted and fermented slowly over sevn days. It is then distilled by direct fire heat in copper stills before finally coming to rest in the hand-selected casks in which the new beer has been aged.

The imperial Baltic porter has a dark, black colour, with a thick, creamy head. The aroma has notes of dark fruit, chocolate, coffee, and vanilla. There’s a rich malt presence and a fine balance of sweetness and bitterness, finishing with a hint of alcohol warmth.

The brewer says: “The extended lagering period using our house lager yeast provides clarity of malt flavour not often found in other big stouts and porters mainly fermented with ale yeast, allowing these complex malt characters, along with whisky flavour from the barrels, to shine.”

The beer is being offered in single cans and four packs. There are just six barrels of it, so supplies are limited! Find out more here.
