Vocation Brewery has taken its popular double-dry-hopped IPA Ascension (6.8% ABV) and created four new variations that build on the original recipe.
The base brew features oats and wheat fermented with London Fog Yeast, giving a soft and supple mouthfeel with a subtly sweet, fruity ester profile. It is paired with Citra in the whirlpool for an underlying juiciness.
The new variations
Ascension El Dorado
El Dorado brings fresh pineapple and stewed stonefruits which harmonise with the Citra base. Notes of sweet sparkling perry upfront give way to watermelon rind and light bitterness.
Ascension HBC 638
Experimental variety HBC 638 spans a diverse range of flavours, from sharp citrus to sweet cherry, via mango, pineapple, and even banana. It rounds out into a refreshing, palate-cleansing cantaloupe.
Ascension Eclipse
Australian hop Eclipse builds on Citra’s juicy foundation with shamelessly sweet mandarin and zesty citrus peel, with a touch of spice for an aromatic finish of fresh pine and mild menthol.
Ascension Motueka
Motueka is quickly becoming the premier example of a New Zealand hop, popular for its bright, fresh, fruity and herbal aromas. There are notes of sweet-tart lime, and passionfruit.
