Educators and entertainers The Thinking Drinkers are back with a huge UK tour celebrating the pub quiz, which has kicked off at the Edinburgh Festival.
They are returning to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival at the Underbelly Ermintrude for the tenth successive year before hitting theatres across Britain.
Tom Sandham and Ben McFarland, the pioneers of alcohol-based comedy, will be performing the newest and much-anticipated version of their Thinking Drinkers Pub Quiz.
Armed with their ‘Drink Less, Drink Better’ mantra, the duo will be filling audiences’ glasses with:
- a phenomenally fruity British gin from Brockmans;
- a legendary lager from German brewer Krombacher;
- the Venezuelan sipping rum that is Diplomatico Reserva Exclusiva;
- an iconic Scotch whisky from Johnnie Walker;
- a beautifully balanced Kentucky straight bourbon from Elijah Craig;
- and a luxury mixer from The London Essence Co, which creates elegant tonics and crafted sodas with pure flavours, using botanicals selected by a team of flavour experts and gently distilled to capture their essence.
Ben said: “The pub quiz is an iconic, intellectual, elbow-bending institution, but we’ve made it better, covering geography and language to history, religion, music, film and, most crucially, the intricate mating habits of a German butterfly.
“Even if you don’t like pub quizzes, and even if you’re a bit thick, you’ll have a great time trying some dazzling drinks and may even win some prizes.”
Tom added: “Some people reckon that drink can decrease the number of brain cells, but our pub quiz is sure to perk up your prefrontal cortex and increase them… probably.
“While everyone enjoys a quality collection of complimentary drinks, we’ll be taking everyone on an entertaining, intoxicating journey through history, while putting them through an extremely thorough quizzical.”
