Anspach & Hobday are to host an opera — about beer — in their Arch House mixed-fermentation brewery and taproom.

Besse

The production, titled Besse: Water, Rye And Hops, is produced by Infinite Opera. It tells the story of a brewster from the middle ages who struggles with accusations of witchcraft and murder.

It will be showing as part of Tête à Tête’s The Opera Festival and will take place on Wednesday, 24th August, at 7pm. Tickets, priced at £15, are available here.

To celebrate the event, Anspach & Hobday have brewed a unique pale ale. Coming in at 4% ABV, Besse uses a combination of Amarillo, Centennial, Citra, Columbus, and Loral hops. The beer is smooth, has a fruity palate, and a crisp, refreshing finish.

Paul Anspach, co-founder of Anspach & Hobday, said: “We have always enjoyed hosting artistic and creative events, including our legendary Christmas carol concert, and more recently our comedy/charity night with Phil Wang.

“In this case, we are looking forward to introducing our customers to an art form they may not be overly familiar with, as well as welcoming some new faces from the world of opera. It is always a privilege to work with people from different fields who show the same level of passion, creativity, and commitment for their work as we do for our beers.”

Tête à Tête is a charity which gives extraordinary performances in extraordinary places — from Cornwall to Newcastle — and helps others to do the same. It has produced more than 100 new operas, and supported thousands of artists to create hundreds more.
