Taprooms across the country are used to hosting special events, but how many have mocked up a crime scene? Allan Rice, of Atom Beers, explains more…
Dusting for prints in the Atom Beers bar
Here at Atom, our core ethos from the very first beer brewed was to brew the best beer we could, but, going beyond that, create an open space for education.
Since launch, we have partnered and worked with many local colleges to provide classes related to the science of brewing here at the brewery. Provided free of charge and solely funded through revenue generated from beer sales.
Now, a little thing called Covid got in the way of things, and we were unable to continue to offer the educational classes that we knew and love. With a focus on keeping the business afloat and going in the right direction to survival and success, we had to mothball all the classes.
Forensic students at the Wyke College crime mock-up
As we exit the pandemic, it has re-affirmed our belief in education, although we can’t currently do as many classes as we have done before. We are now in the position to utilise our bar venues to offer even more options.
The first iteration of that was turning our Beverley bar venue into a crime scene for students from Wyke College to have the opportunity to experience the role of crime scene investigation at a mocked-up incident.
It was great to be able to offer a space for these students to continue their education, plus it was really good fun. We aim to build more partnerships and opportunities over the coming months.
