Piglove Brewing Co, in Leeds, has launched a crowdfunding campaign to allow it to develop what the owners call “our rebellious little brewery”.

Piglove Brewing Co

The brewery was established in 2019 by Venezuelan friends Marcos Ramirez and Jesus Moreno. ‘Piglove’ comes from the Venezuelan expression ‘cochino amor’, which is used to describe love for something that is so big, raw and passionate that it becomes filthy and absurd.

“For pigs, it’s mud, for us it’s craft beer and brewing,” say the brewers. “There’s nothing we love more than getting messy in the brewery, and working on new ideas!”

The duo are looking to raise £15,000 from the crowdfunder. Projects include adding two 1,000-litre bright beer tanks to help increase production. They also want to take on two new members of staff — a full-time bar supervisor and a UK sales rep.

The crowdfunder comes with the usual array of rewards for supporters, from a loyalty card offering 10% discount for life to brew days and exclusive hire of the Piglove taproom.

In addition, Marcos and Jesus will be donating 10% of the crowdfund total to the Children’s Heart Surgery Fund. “CHSF has been doing incredibly important work for over 30 years, supporting Leeds Congenital Heart Unit, its patients and their families,” said the brewers. “We’d like to take this opportunity to show them our support.”
