Double-Barrelled Brewery has announced Reach (12% ABV) as the first release from its barrel aged series of beers.

Double Barrelled Reach

Reach, an imperial stout, was Double Barrelled’s 2021 International Women’s Collaboration Brew Day beer. After a full year’s ageing in a single Buffalo Trace cask, this beer is rich, warming, and intense. Expect notes of chocolate, dried tobacco and molasses up front, says the brewer, giving way to a sweet, smooth finish with hints of coffee.

“When we began our journey at Double-Barrelled, we had always planned to release an array of barrel-aged beers,” says the brewer. “With no two barrels alike, we wanted to let each barrel’s origin shine, accentuating  and elevating each release in its own distinctive way.

“The most important ingredient in these beers is time — the time to mature and to allow the flavours to deepen. We could have released these beers sooner (and believe us, the temptation to do so has been there many times!), but by giving each barrel the time and respect it deserves has paid off with a beautifully complex and nuanced beer.”
