Asda is piloting the serving of draught craft beer in Milton Keynes with a view to rolling the project out to other stores.

Milton Keynes shoppers are being offered a menu of 12 regularly changing brews, with staff trained to offer advice.

Beer is poured into refillable one- or two-litre glass, containers which can be taken home. The containers can be kept or cleaned and returned for refilling.

Asda is partnering with Craft on Draft for the project. “The Craft on Draft team will use their expertise in the hospitality industry to bring unusual beers from smaller and local breweries to the store that aren’t easily available in other retailers, pubs, or smaller can and bottle formats,” says Asda.

A pioneering move from Asda, although the implication for local bottle shops and bars are clear. Beer Today remains an advocate and champion of independent bars and retailers.
