Sussex-based Lister’s Brewery has passed the £100,000 target of its latest crowdfunding campaign, as it continues its rapid expension.

Named after a fondly-remembered rescue dog, the brewery was co-founded by Phil Waite, Alan Waite, and Katie Coakes.

After overfunding during the first lockdown, Lister’s Brewery has moved onto the Angmering Park Estate, expanded beer distribution capabilities with its hub model, and created Tailwagger Gin.

It also makes its spent barley into dog treats, under the Tail Wagger brand. The company has an ambition to become even more sustainable, and is looking to develop develop anaerobic digestion technology to turn spent yeast and brewery by-products into biogas to power the brewery.

The crowdfunding money will also:

  • Expand the sales team and distribution network
  • Increase capacity at the brewery
  • Get a first 32-tonne silo of barley from the estate malted to brew with
  • Develop more pet treat products and pet food

Funding still has 23 days to run, and at the time of writing the £100,000 target has been exceeded by £13,857.
