Sharp’s Brewery has yet again put Cornwall on the international stage after five of its products earned recognition at the World Beer Awards.

Sharp's Sea Fury

Sea Fury won the highest accolade of ‘world’s best’ in the pale bitter category, as well as being named the country winner. Offshore Pilsner also came away as a UK winner in the Czech style pale lager category.

Sea Fury draws its inspiration from the stormy Atlantic seas that crash into the rugged Cornish coast during the long, dark winter. The beer was first brewed in 1996 as Sharp’s Special, to satisfy demand from local fishermen for a stronger ale to enjoy after long and perilous stints at sea. Today its malty, fruity flavour is enjoyed by a much wider audience.

Offshore Pilsner is inspired by those rare moments when the wind turns offshore and hardy surfers are able to catch the perfect wave. It features the perfect balance of continental hops and Czech yeast, giving it a clean, refreshing taste.

In addition, Wolf Rock and Sharp’s Camel Valley Pilsner both earned silver medals, while Sharp’s Atlantic was awarded a bronze.

Sharp's Offshore

Wolf Rock has full ripe sweetness and a roasted, berry fruit finish. It has already won numerous awards, including the International Beer Challenge 2019.

As an exclusive collaboration with neighbouring Camel Valley Vineyard, Sharp’s Camel Valley Pilsner also won world’s best at the World Beer Awards 2019. The unique sparkling Pilsner offers a crisp, clean bitterness, with a fruity, citrus aroma that comes from the blend of hops. Brewed at Sharp’s, the finished product is then reseeded with Champagne yeast and bottled in traditional Champagne-style bottles at Camel Valley Vineyard, a short distance away.

Marketing controller at Sharp’s Brewery, James Nicholls, said: “Everyone at the brewery in Rock is delighted to have achieved such immense success on an international level at these awards. For Sea Fury to win world’s best pale bitter is just out of this world, we are so pleased.

“To have been judged by some of the best beer experts, and against some of the best beers in the world, and won is testament to the quality of Sharp’s products, and I would like to thank everyone involved in brewing our beers — I’ll be raising a glass to them tonight!”
