Five shepherd’s huts have been added to the grounds of the Cornish Arms, St Merryn, part of the Rick Stein Restaurants business.
Designed by stonemason and artist Ed Stein, in collaboration with local experts in craft and design, the huts combine modern comfort with craftsmanship.
Cornish stone has been used to create traditional curved stone hedges, surrounding each hut and offering privacy, as well as for individual terrace areas on which guests can relax and watch the sun rise and set over the valley.
Ed Stein said: “I am so proud to have worked on the design and construction of our shepherd’s huts, which felt like a natural addition to the valley and land surrounding the Cornish Arms.
“I’ve always thought of the space as an open canvas, and I’m pleased we’ve created a secluded set of huts from which guests can enjoy the beautiful scenery beyond. The huts are just perfect for couples who want to explore, set back from the hustle and bustle of the town. I worked on the extension of the Cornish Arms, and have tried to carry the feel of that design over into the huts too.
“The hut build was a great opportunity to bring together some of the most talented designers and craftspeople in Cornwall, and to build something (well five somethings!) which showcase that talent. We cannot wait to open and see plenty of happy faces enjoying the cabins and their charm.”
