The mum of a Lancashire craft beer company owner took parental support to a new level when she volunteered to take her son’s place on a 100mph wing walk on a bi-plane.

The high-flying challenge features in a new video (above) from Cannabrew to promote its Cannabidiol (CBD)-infused hard cider, called Cloud Cider.

Cannabrew owner Elliot Horner had originally planned to star as the wing walker in the video. However, days before the shoot, the project was placed in jeopardy when the pilot of the bi-plane said that 22 year-old Elliot was too heavy to ride on the wing.

In his moment of need, Elliot, from Lancaster in Lancashire, confided in his Mum Justine. He said: “I’m a rugby player, so I’m a bit bigger than most. And that was the problem. I was too heavy to go on the wing!

“The wing walk was the whole point of the video. We’d already invested a lot of money in the idea; the kind of money that a new business like ours couldn’t afford to simply write off.

“When I explained it to Mum, I couldn’t believe it! Like a shot, she volunteered to complete the wing walk in my place. I know I’m not the first business owner to get help from their parents. But, there can’t be many parents who would strap themselves to a plane wing flying at 100 mph for the cause!”

The video celebrates the new Cloud cider’s ability to get a drinker’s head out of the clouds. The wing walk was a real life extreme adventure to demonstrate the head in the clouds feeling.

Mum Justine Horner, a nanny from Lancaster, has a history of accepting extreme challenges. She has completed a tandem parachute jump; driven British Superbikes around Oulton Park; ridden pillion on the back of six-time Superbike Champion Shaky Burnes’ bike; flown in a microlite; reverse bungee jumped; driven an F1 car; and descended the world’s fastest zip wire in Wales.

Justine said: “I’ve never been the kind of person to shy away from taking risks. I just love the adrenaline rush. The wing walk was the least I could do to help. I’m really proud of everything Elliot is achieving in business. Just like the wing walk, I hope that calculated risk-taking will help him to continue making smart business decisions in the future!”

Cannabrew has already launched a CBD-infused IPA called Sesh and a lager called Soul. CBD is a naturally-occurring chemical compound found in a cannabis plant. Cloud Cider is the third brew to be offered by Lancashire-based craft brewer.

In May, Cannabrew generated more than £200,000 from hundreds of crowdfunding investors in just 24 hours. The investment means that Cannabrew can now press ahead with ambitious plans to recruit and expand, with the ultimate aim of being listed by a major UK supermarket.
