As England fans cheered Gareth Southgate’s team to a victory over Germany on Tuesday, the on-trade in England had cause for celebration.
The game saw an uplift in beer sales of just over 75%, compared to an average Tuesday this year.
Analysis of real time data gathered during the match by the Oxford Partnership Market Watch and Vianet indicates the strongest performance being in England, while Scotland experienced only a 9.7% increase. In Wales there was a 5.6% reduction in sales.
Pubs showing the match increased sales by 99.5 pints in England against those that didn’t.
In the sector overall, the number of open outlets increased last week by 1%, with the total now standing at 85.1%. Occupancy levels are stable and, encouragingly, dwell times have increased over the last week by eight minutes.
