The Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) says its beer delivery app Brew2You has generated more than £120,000 for breweries during both lockdowns.
It provides a shop window for thousands of pubs, breweries, and cider producers to offer take-away or delivery services during periods of forced closure. Customers can search for drinks and order them to their door with the click of a button.
The app is not-for-profit, and pubs and breweries can use it free of charge, paying just a small set £2 per month Stripe user fee for payment processing. It has received widespread support across the industry, with endorsement from the British Institute of Innkeepers, the Society of Independent Brewers, and Cask Marque.
CAMRA is now encouraging pub-goers unable to visit their local, to purchase drinks through the app, rather than turning to supermarkets.
The organisation’s national chairman, Nik Antona, said: “The new restrictions that most pubs across the country are now facing come at a devastating time. The run-up to Christmas is typically the busiest time of the year for our pubs and brewers, and many will have been relying on that boost in footfall to make up for a year marred by restrictions, curfews and forced closures.
“We’d encourage everyone to buy local this Christmas and support pubs and brewers that really need our help, rather than turning to supermarket chains. The Brew2You app provides a single resource to search for and purchase locally produced real ales, cider and perries this Christmas.”
Alex Coomes and Susan Harding from Brightwater Brewery, in Surrey, said: “Brew2You is a great initiative that has enabled Brightwater Brewery and our small pub, Platform 3, in Claygate, Surrey, to get our draught beers, bottled beers and cider to more real ale fans, UK-wide. The app is easy to use from our perspective and our customers love it. Thank you, CAMRA!”
Jared Ward, of Tring Brewery, said: “Brew2You has opened up a brand new channel of sales for the brewery. We would like to take this opportunity to thank CAMRA, SIBA, and Cask Marque for launching such a brilliant platform, it has brought the brewer and drinker together once more during this difficult time. Cheers to Brew2You!”
