Left to right on brew day are: Bath Ales brewers, Simon Peacock and Alex Smith; Blackpit head brewer, Dan Smith; and Bath Ales head brewer, Georgina Young.

Bath Ales and Blackpit Brewery have collaborated on a limited-edition pale ale, in support of Brewgooder’s Global Gathering campaign (running from March 20-22).

All profits from Good Hare Day (4%ABV) will be donated to sustainable development projects in Malawi.

This is an easy-drinking pale ale, with refreshing orange and citrus notes, and a long hoppy finish. The well-balanced and sessionable brew will benefit the lives of communities in Africa, and help to fund access to clean, safe water.

The Global Gathering campaign, set up by charitable craft brewer, Brewgooder, is a worldwide mission to provide clean water for one million people through the power of craft beer.

More than 250 breweries from 24 countries have joined the campaign, each brewing their own limited-edition beer. These will be collectively launched on World Water Day, Friday, March 20.

‘We are really delighted to be partnering with Blackpit Brewery and using our shared passion for beer to help make a difference’

Each brewery taking part has committed to raise at least £500 for the Brewgooder Foundation, which supports rehabilitation and construction projects. Bath Ales and Blackpit have set themselves a combined target of £1,200, which they hope to surpass — enough to purchase a clean water well for a village.

To achieve the target, the breweries will be celebrating with simultaneous launch events in their taprooms on March 20, from 4pm, with live music, prize draws, and, plenty of great beer.

Bath Ales ‘ head brewer, Georgina Young, said: “We are really delighted to be partnering with Blackpit Brewery and using our shared passion for beer to help make a difference. It was great to be invited to their brewery in Buckingham to collaborate with them on the brew — it was a fantastic day.

“All of the proceeds raised from Good Hare Day will go directly to the Brewgooder Foundation and provide access to a safe source of clean water for thousands of Malawians. We’d love to sell as many pints of Good Hare Day as we possibly can this World Water Day!”

Ben Williams, director at Blackpit Brewery, added: “It’s been a real pleasure working with the crew from Bath Ales. To be able to draw on the wealth of knowledge and experience that Georgina, in particular, possesses has been a real highlight for us, and we can’t wait to taste the finished product!”

Good Hare Day will be available in Hare Brewery’s tap room, and select pubs in the Bath and Bristol region, from Friday, March 20. Keep an eye on Bath Ales’ social media to find out where you can enjoy your nearest pint.
