BrewDog is expanding its global presence with the launch of its first Icelandic bar, located in the country’s capital of Reykjavik.
Marking the Aberdeenshire brewers 58th worldwide bar, BrewDog Reykjavik is in the heart of the city famed for its striking architecture and sweeping coastal views. The bar is located on the corner of Frakkastígur and Hverfisgata at Frakkastigur 8a, Reykjavik 101 — a short walk from the bustling Laugavegur main street.
The bar will boast 20 draft lines pouring BrewDog favourites, as well as a wide range of the best craft beer from around the world. Small batch brews and a selection of Icelandic craft beers will be available for beer fans to enjoy in the spacious 120 capacity bar.
In celebration of the opening, BrewDog will enter the first 100 beer-loving locals through the bar’s doors into a raffle at its public opening today (Friday). The prize will be a year’s supply of the brewer’s flagship beer, Punk IPA.
Sales growth fuels global expansion
BrewDog Reykjavik comes after the brewer announced unaudited half-year revenue and sales growth figures fuelling further global expansion. Total revenue is at £78 million, marking an impressive 55% increase versus this time last year, and revenue of the brewery’s bar division is up 92%, generating an incremental £10 million so far in 2018.
BrewDog’s heavy investment in the off-trade, bar openings and the newly acquired Draft House business have all contributed to its UK retail sales growth of 83%.
James Watt, co-founder of BrewDog, said: “Reykjavik has long been in our sights as it continues to grow into a hub for kickass, exciting craft beer. We couldn’t be happier to finally provide an Icelandic outpost for the craft beer community to enjoy flavourful, bold beer, and help accelerate the city’s craft beer scene.
“Our mission is to make other people as passionate about craft beer as we are the world over, and we hope that opening the doors to this latest bar inspires a new generation of beer evangelists as they delve into the incredible craft beer world of brilliance, passion and experimentation.”
