St Andrews Brewing Company has taken to crowdfunding platform Crowdcube, seeking £400,000 to move its development on to the next stage.

In its pitch, the company says: “Our vision is to establish our brand worldwide as a creator of brilliant beers and the perfect places to enjoy them. Running great venues in tandem with our brewery provides a showcase for 25% of our beer, and ensures it’s served in perfect condition!

“Our brewpub won best beer bar at the 2017 Scottish Beer Awards. Our St Andrews and Edinburgh pubs will soon be joined by our Caird Hall venue, near Dundee’s new V&A museum and £1bn waterfront redevelopment. With this raise we aim to make this a flagship destination for the best of Scottish beer, food & hospitality.”

The crowdfunding cash will also go towards:

  • Increasing brewing capacity to one million pints
  • Install bottling and canning lines
  • Adding an onsite taproom and bottle shop
  • Develop a partnership with Glenturret distillery to build on great interest in barrel-aged beers in America

Awards

The pitch adds: “Since returning brewing to St Andrews after a 100-year absence, we’ve scooped a World Beer Award, plus SIBA and Great Taste Awards. Excellence attracts great customers, and we supply five supermarkets including Sainsburys, Asda and Aldi, independent retailers — notably the Old Course Hotel and The Links Trust — and large buyers such as Dunns Food & Drink and Caledonian Heritage.

“We are listed with the Liquor Control Board of Ontario. We regularly attend festivals with our mobile bar Special Hoperations — a converted ex-SAS Land Rover.

“To meet growing demand we need to expand our brewery. Investment will fund kit capable of quintupling our production to 1 million pints in 2019. With a strong brand, expanded brewery and new venues, we’re ready to take advantage of the world’s growing love affair with craft beer.”
