Wye Valley Brewery has won gold in the cask standard bitters and pale ales category of SIBA’s National Independent Beer Competition for its red ale, The Hopfather.
Brewed using Herefordshire Jester, Centennial and Goldings hops, it is a smooth red ale featuring tropical citrus and grapefruit flavours, with an ABV of 3.9%.
The competition saw The Hopfather pitted against seven other regional winners, including Purity Brewing Co’s Bunny Hop and Lacons’ Encore, which won silver and bronze respectively.
Wye Valley Brewery marketing manager, Abbie Gadd, said: “We are absolutely thrilled to have received this award. We know how good our beers are, but it’s always hugely humbling to get a high-five from our peers, and The Hopfather is certainly a worthy winner!”
