Lacons took home four awards at this year’s Eastern region Independent Beer Awards, run by the Society of Independent Brewers (SIBA).
Lacons Encore won gold and Legacy won silver in the cask best bitters and pale ales category, while bronze was awarded to both heritage ales Audit Ale and Old Nogg.
Encore (3.8% ABV), which has already won four awards in 2017, is described as a session bitter with a smooth citrus punch.
Legacy, which has won three awards in 2017, is a light blonde ale, with a deep flavour, at 4.4%.
Old Nogg, a heritage recipe from the early 1920s, is a 6% ABV old ale with a slightly nutty flavour, while Audit Ale comes from a recipe dating back to 1916. The beer used to be shipped over to the USA, due to its huge popularity, and is an 8% ABV barley wine brewed for consumption at the end of Cambridge and Oxford Universities’ annual audits.
SIBA chairman, Buster Grant, said: “Judges had a tough job separating the pack as the standard was extremely high once again. The winners from the SIBA competition are officially the best independent craft beers in the East region, something brewers should be extremely proud of.”
Judi-Mae Alderton, marketing manager at Lacons Brewery, added: “These awards are very special to us as they are judged by our peers and fellow brewers. To learn that fellow brewers and industry experts enjoy our beers this much is such a proud moment for us!
“We love the opportunity to put Norfolk on the map, as the great produce that comes out of this region can never be underestimated.”
