shuffleboard

Shuffleboard, a phenomenon that has already swept the US and Scandinavia is now set to do the same in the UK following the launch of a series of leading shuffleboard brands.

Home Leisure Direct has launched its exclusive range of shuffleboards as it becomes the sole distributor in the UK for the Brunswick, Hudson and Hurricane brands.

Andy Beresford, the managing director of Home Leisure Direct, said: “Shuffleboard is extremely popular in the US and Scandinavia, yet it’s not something that’s really touched on the public consciousness in the UK.

“It’s incredibly addictive, great fun to play and easy to get to grips with. We’re confident that, as awareness of the game continues to spread, it will really take off and could potentially become as familiar sight as the traditional pub pool table.”

The aim of the game is to slide disc-shaped metal objects, named ‘pucks’ or ‘weights’, down the board with enough precision that they stop in the scoring sections on the table. You can also play tactically by trying to knock the opposition’s pucks off the board, so that they are left scoring no points.

The game has become hugely popular in European bars and clubs, which have been inspired by the Royal Palms Shuffleboard Club in Brooklyn, New York. Home Leisure Direct recently supplied two Hudson tables to the London Shuffleboard Club, Europe’s first all shuffleboard venue, which has just opened its doors in Shoreditch.

Andy said: “The beauty of the game is its simplicity and its accessibility — literally anyone can try their hand at it and become reasonably proficient in a short space of time. It’s a brilliant pub game, which is something that the newly launched London Shuffleboard Club has recognised and is aiming to promote.”
