Paul Reed Bedlam BreweryAfter 16 years at the helm of Dark Star, one of the UK’s first and most influential craft breweries, former MD and founder, Paul Reed, has decided to move on to another challenge as part of the team at Bedlam Brewery.

Paul (pictured) is credited for being the driving force behind developing the capacity and reputation of Dark Star and bringing the talents of a number of imaginative head brewers to a wider population of beer lovers.

Bedlam Brewery was launched in early 2015 and, in a short period, an ambitious and talented team have come together, including German-born and trained head brewer, Fabio Israel, to establish their range of beers locally in Sussex.

Managing director of Bedlam, Dominic Worrall was delighted when Paul asked to join Bedlam. He said: “I am absolutely thrilled that Paul has taken the decision to join Bedlam Brewery as we look to develop the business. What Paul’s team at Dark Star created over the last 20 years has directly inspired the birth of the UK craft beer scene.

“We have a very clear plan for Bedlam, which is about staying true to the tradition of our beer styles, developing great relationships with the trade and consumers, caring for the environment, and having a close and highly motivated team. These are the values that Paul lives with a passion.”

Paul said: “I’m not embarrassed to admit that I’ve fallen in love again. Just as all those years ago I discovered those great American hops and dry aromatic beers from the fledgling Dark Star, I’ve now re-discovered the beauty of pure style. In a beer scene where everyone is rushing to push boundaries, Bedlam revel in the balance and nuanced subtlety of great beer styles.”
