Mad Squirrel brewhouse

Plans: how the new Mad Squirrel Brewery and Tap Room will look

Red Squirrel, the award-winning Hertfordshire-based microbrewery, is changing its name to Mad Squirrel as part of a major rebrand.

The move was announced at 9pm yesterday when the company launched its new website, which unveiled the branding, alongside a large amount of information about its plans.

Mad Squirrel canMad Squirrel spokesman, Tim Hickford, said: “Mad Squirrel has been a sub-brand of ours since 2014. Although we are proud of everything we have achieved as Red Squirrel, over the last couple of years our brewing style, company vision and aspirations have organically developed to the point where we feel that our previous name is not truly representative of our company. We have, therefore, retired the Red Squirrel name, alongside all other sub-brands, and streamlined our image.”

Mad Squirrel’s new website reveals plans for a new brewery and taproom, a move into packaging beer in a 440ml can format, several new beers, and a new round of equity crowdfunding, which will launch later this week via the rightcrowd.com

Tim said: “We have already funded our new brewery, canning line and our latest Mad Squirrel Tap & Bottle Shop — which will be based at the brewery — and have secured our sixth site, which will be announced soon.

“However, we are pleased to be opening our business up to further investors in order to accelerate the growth of our business, particularly our chain of Mad Squirrel Tap & Bottle Shops.”

Mad Squirrel currently has four Tap & Bottle Shops in Chesham, Amersham and High Wycombe. in Buckinghamshire, and Berkhamsted in Hertfordshire.
