NEWS IN BRIEF

• There’s an astronomical theme to two new releases from Verdant. Unlike Stars is a 6.5% ABV IPA hopped with Sabro, Galaxy, Mosaic, and Idaho 7, “awash with tropical goodness”. Planets Don’t Twnkle (8% ABV) is a DIPA paying homage to the Australian Galaxy hop. The single-hop showcase is described as multi-layered and intense.
• St Austell Brewery chief exeutive is to join the board of Thwaites, in Lancashire, as a non-executive director. Kevin was previously chairman of the British Beer & Pub Association, and is a former chief executive of Admiral Taverns.
• Lewis and Rich, from Penzance Brewing Co, are tackling a beer push of nearly seven miles for charity. On 31st May they are setting off from PZ HQ, in Crowlas, to push a full barrel 6.7 miles to The Fountain Inn, Newbridge. They will be raising money for a new defibrillator for Newbridge. They’re looking at making this an annual event, pushing casks to pubs which takes the PZ beers. Contribute to their fund via this Just Giving page.

• Verdant Brewing Co have announced that their Falmouth pub, The Seaview Inn, on Woodhouse Terrace, will re-open on Friday, 23rd May. Prior to closure, the pub offered 10 keg taps and four cask lines. There will be a Desi-inspired kitchen, created in collaboration with Sham Mulji of Situ Café, in Penryn.
• Drift (4% ABV) is a new amber ale from St Ives Brewery. It’s described as an easy-drinking ale made in a classic style with modern brewing techniques. Malt driven, it offers subtle bitterness and a light note of fruity hop character.
• Caught in the Currant (4.7% ABV) is Padstow’s second sour of the beer, and its another cheesecake sour. “The subtle cream and biscuit notes return, but this time blackcurrants take the lead role to deliver a beer that’s delicious, refreshing, and drop dead gorgeous,” says the brewer.
