Breeze (4% ABV, can)
A session lager, made with all British hops, slightly hazy golden, with a white head that dies down very quickly. There’s a spicy, slightly fruity aroma. It’s spicy on the palate with some tropical fruit notes. It’s fine, but I wouldn’t go mad for it.

Christmas Tide (4.8% ABV, bottle)
Deep red/amber with a beige, creamy head that stays well, there’s malt, berry fruit, and a hint of chocolate on the nose. On the palate, it’s everything you want a Christmas beer to be. A robust malt base, but it’s also nutty, with dark berry fruit, milk chocolate, a some spiciness. A great festive beer,

Devon Amber (3.8% ABV, bottle)
A beautiful polished amber with a light brown head that stays well, there’s a malty nose with some orange zest. Ooh, it’s a traditional West Country brown bitter, lighter in tone than some, but with that lovely bready malt against light fruit from the hops. There’s a dry, slightly zesty finish. Top notch.

Gold (4.2% ABV, bottle)
Straw coloured with a white head, there’s gentle grassy and melon aromas on this brew. The taste gives a very pronounced note of honeydew melon, along with stonefruit, against biscuity malt. A, light, refreshing, easy-drinking bitter.

Island Street Porter (5.9% ABV, can)
Dark as night with the faintest tinge of red, and a thick-off-white head, this rich and roasty, with lovely notes of coffee, bitter dark chocolate, and a hint of black cherry. Very smooth and moreish.

Lifesaver (4.8% ABV, bottle)
Chestnut coloured with a light brown head that fades away quickly, there’s light chocolate on the nose. It’s got what I call that delightfully old-fashioned best bitter taste, rich and malty with a good body and a nice bitter finish. There’s a hint of chocolate in there and some nuttiness and berry fruit, too. Hitting the spot nicely.

Pale Ale (4.6% ABV, can)
Deep golden with a white head, I got notes of orange and a hint of aniseed on the nose. It’s a beautifully balanced beer, the malt lightly bready with some toffee. There’s orange pith, almost marmaladey, like an English IPA. I really enjoyed this and look forward to meeting it again.

Pilsner (5.4% ABV, can)
Hazy, rich golden, with a white head that fades fast, this has a very herbal, spicy aroma. There’s a fragrance on the nose, too, and it carries through to the taste, where it’s balanced by some robust, brown bread malt. This grows on me the more I sup it!

Seahorse (4.4% ABV, bottle)
A bright, well-conditioned amber with a tight, full, off-white head. It looks so inviting! The aroma is light malt and some spicy hop. This is a really good amber bitter, straddling, as it should, that fine line between golden and malty bitter. The malt character is on the line between biscuit and bready, and the hop light citrus, slightly spicy. The body’s good, nice and smooth. Very good indeed, and beautifully refreshing.

Shingle Bay (4.4% ABV, bottle)
Golden in colour, this had lots of carbonation, with a billowing, slightly off-white head. Not too much on the nose, but there’s some spicy hop. On the palate, it’s crisp and refreshing, more of that spicy hop and some lemon citrus notes against biscuit malt. Just what the doctor ordered for a sunny summer afternoon session.

Sundrop (4.6% ABV, can)
Bright, polished golden, with a white head that stays well, this is certainly appropriately named! With an inviting citrus fruit aroma, it’s a lovely tasting drop, this, orange pith notes against biscuit malt, almost giving me an English IPA vibe. The flavours are carried via an excellent body. Top drawer!
