Badger Beers

Outland Black IPA (5% ABV, can)
Pouring pretty close to black, with a light brown head that stays quite well, there are solid piney notes on the nose. It’s true to style in terms of taste, with lemon citrus notes accompanying the lovely pine and just an edge of malt, like the sharp sweetness of treacle toffee. Enjoying the taste, but finding the brew a little thin for 5% ABV.

India Pale Lager (4.7% ABV, can)
A hazy sandy colour, this has a white head that dies down quickly. It’s an interesting hybrid style, a citrussy lager. Not the fullest body. There are spicy hop notes in there and and a good malt balance, light and biscuity. It wouldn’t be a go-to for me, but’s it’s decent and refreshing.

Outland India Pale Lager

Red Rascal (4% ABV, bottle)
A lovely clear red ale colour, with a beige head that lasts well. Cherry and caramel on the nose. Cherry comes through on the palate, but doesn’t overpower this smooth, flavoursome mild. Caramel and a hint of Bourbon biscuit from the malt. There’s a vibrant cherry bite on the finish. A very nice beer indeed!

Outland Tropical Pale Ale (4.3% ABV, can)
Is that peach I can smell as I open the can? Yes — lots of it! It’s a very attractive deep gold colour with a white head that stays well. That peach carries through to the palate where it joins a fruit bowl including mango, lime, and apricot. A little of the thin side for its ABV, but a very juicy, sessionable drop.

Outland West Coast IPA (5% ABV, can)
Pours bronze with a very slightly off-white head that stays well, pillowy. A polished beer, very attractive. Don’t get a huge aroma, and what there is seems quite malty. The taste is not like other West Coast IPAs I’ve tried, yet… I like it. There’s quite a hop depth, some dankness beside intense stonefruit. The malt is fabulous, rich and toffee-like. More straight IPA — and a cracker at that — than a West Coast for me, but very enjoyable all the same.
