Utopian Brewing

AF Pilsner (0.5% ABV, can)
Hazy gold, with a white head that stays well. The palate is crisp and clean, with lemon citrus and herbal note, and balancing biscuit malt. As one would expect from these lager experts, it’s a great alternative to their alcoholic offerings.

Utopian AF Pilsner

Augsburg Export (5.4% ABV, can)
Light amber with a white head that lingers well, the aroma is malty and herbal. It’s a very nice, full-bodied lager, quite malty, with some spicy herbal notes and an edge of orange pith. A robust, export strength lager that deserves respect.

Utopian Augsburg Export

Černé speciální (5.9% ABV, can)
With an aroma of rich, sweet malt, this is one for contemplation by a blazing log fire this autumn. Almost black, it has a red tinge and a cream coloured head. Deep roasted malt notes dominate the palate, with notes of smoke, some woodiness, and a hint of coffee.

Cerne Specialni

British Pilsner (4.4% ABV)
Clear golden with a white head and gentle carbonation, the aroma is herbal and lemony. It’s got a fresh, refreshing character to it. Herbal, spicy, but with lemon pith notes cutting through. A good session brew.

Utopian British Pilsner

Dopplebock (7.5% ABV, can)
Deep mahogany/red with an off-white head that dies down very quickly. The aroma is roast malt and Demorara sugar. It’s a big, robust brew. Big malt character, bready, almost toasty, with dark sugar sweetness, then some red apple notes towards the end. Enjoyed this!

Utopian Dopplebock

Franconian Dunkel (4.9% ABV, can, collaboration with Braybrooke Beer Co)
A beautiful mahogany colour with a creamy head, this has a rich, spicy, slightly smokey aroma. It’s all about the fruity, spicy malt, toasty, with toffee richness, warming, with an excellent body. With decent bitterness on the finish, it’s decidedly moreish. Dunkel dun well.

Green Hopped Pilsner (5% ABV, can — collaboration with Gadds Brewery)
Hazy gold with a white head, one gets that impression of fresh, wet, grassy, and slightly herbal hops on the nose. It’s a delightful pilsner, light and refreshing, with a good body. There’s light, bready malt, a hint of lemon, and a spicy note. Nothing overpowering, all so well balanced. Enjoyed this!

Utopian Gadds Green Hopped Pilsner

Harvest Festbier (5.5% ABV, can)
A special beer, created by Utopian head brewer, Jeremy Swainson, after studying a 19th century brewing textbook. It’s an authentic rustic Augsburg lager, with huge malt presence after an immense 12-hour mash. But there’s a hint of woodiness, and some spice, too. English Fuggles add gentle bitterness, that’s welcome after the sweetness. Read more about the project here.

Heritage IPA (6.4% ABV, can)
Slightly hazy amber with a billowing, off-white head — this looks very inviting! Toffee notes on the nose. On the palate, deep orange pith, caramel malt, and some spicy hops. Beautifully done.

Utopian Heritage IPA

Rainbock (7% ABV, can)
Slightly hazy and golden, with a foaming white head, this has a clean, fresh, slightly citrussy aroma. Makes you want to dive right in! Ooh, that’s good. Clean and refreshing, with a sherbet lemon/lemon curd note, slightly herbal, nicely balanced with a good light biscuit malt base. Perfect for a sunny, late spring evening, and very drinkable for its ABV,

Utopian Rainbock

Small Pils (3.4% ABV, can)
Hazy gold with a white head that stays well, this has a malty, slightly herbal nose – quite inviting. With Vienna malt in the recipe, this was always going to be a winner for me. And the addition of English Harlequin hops provides the perfect fruity foil against that robust sweet base. Lots going on here for a modest 3.4%!

Utopian Small Pils

Vienna Keller Lager (4.8% ABV, can)
Golden/light amber in colour, with a white head, this looks terrific as it pours. There’s a lovely bready aroma as the can pops open. The bready character carries through to the palate, with some caramel, too. There’s a tingling bitterness, spicy notes, and some lemon and orange citrus. This delightful, characterful brew, has a good body and is made, as ever with Utopian beers, with all British ingredients.
