Spingo Ales

Middle (5% ABV, bottle)
Crystal clear chestnut/red. with an off-white head, it looks beautiful and really inviting. The aroma is roast malt, toffee, and berry fruit. It has a great body! On the palate, there’s caramel, vanilla — quite smooth — with that berry fruit bursting through on the finish. It’s lovely!
Buy it: I bought mine on John’s off-licence, in St Ives. It’s available in the brewery’s web shop.

Spingo Special

Special Ale (6.6% ABV, bottle)
Deep dark red with a tan head that fades fairly quickly, this has spicy, herbal hops on the aroma. Big roast malt sweetness on the palate, with those peppery, floral notes. It’s well balanced, but not enormously sophisticated. But it is a West Country classic. although to me not quite as good as the Middle.
