Old Fashioned Wee Heavy (8% ABV, bottle)
One to sip, this. A really beautiful dark deep red, mahogany even, with a tight, light tan head that stays very well. There are aromas of whisky even as I pour the beer from the bottle. On the nose, in the glass, the whisky is less apparent, but bitters, which is in the recipe, comes through. Bitters on the palate, too, with orange peel, then a whisky note creeping in and building to a bittersweet finish. That’s a clever way of presenting cocktail flavour in a beer. It’s rich, complex, and very satisfying.

Old Fashioned Wee Heavy

Salted Speyside Wee Heavy (8% ABV, bottle)
The aroma: whisky, wood and rich fruit. This is one of those beers — red with a good cream coloured head — that you want to keep sniffing for ages before you get stuck in. And when you do venture for a taste it’s a sipper, for sure. Rich and smooth, there’s bready malt, rich toffee, notes of toffee apple, berries, and that warming bit of whisky. Delightful!
