Wells & Co has scooped three wins at the Craft Beer Marketing Awards, happily coinciding with the long-awaited full opening of Brewpoint this week.

Brewpoint

The awards invite breweries from across the world to enter their top work, recognising and awarding the very best marketing in the brewing industry.

Winners in each category receive an award known as a ‘Crushie’, and Wells & Co walked away with two (gold for best can design, and platinum for best unqiue logo), as well as a global award for its new logo.

Brand development

The logo was designed to tell the story behind the Wells & Co brand, looking back over five generations of the Wells family brewing in Bedfordshire. It incorporates the company’s original nautical starfish symbol as a nod to its heritage and history.

Managing director of Wells & Co, Peter Wells, said: “The first time we saw the new logo for Brewpoint, it was one of those moments where something just hits the nail on the head. We knew we had something special that nodded to our heritage and history that we could happily use for years to come.”

The award win has been all the more special for the business as the designs were very much a Bedford community effort. The Brewpoint team collaborated with local artistic talent to bring its new home and brews to life.

Bedford College student Carli Pfurtscheller came up with the creative ideas for the logo and branding. It was then developed further in-house with former Bedford college student Marcus Finch.

An instantly recognisable brand

Tom Foddy, head of sales and marketing, said: “We wanted to create a brand and individual beers that were instantly recognisable to our customers, and we focused on the simplicity of the names and designs to make sure each had great standout.

“Throughout the design process for our beers and overall brand, this thinking was key, and its brilliant the designs met with this level of recognition at the Craft Beer Marketing Awards. These accolades are all the sweeter to receive in reflection of the hard work that went into creating Brewpoint over the past three years.”

These awards are an encouraging start for Bedford’s fresh-faced brewery, particularly so with Brewpoint having launched in the middle of a global pandemic.

As the site fully opens for the first time this month, it is testament to the team’s hard work and the setbacks the business has overcome during the past four years to bring the brewery and visitor attraction to life.
