Sharp’s Brewery is celebrating its support of a number of local rowing clubs via Doom Bar,through a series of sponsorships and donations.

The brewery has announced another year of sponsorship of its most local club, Rock Rowing Club. It has recently funded a set of beautiful oars, made by highly respected craftsman Andrew Nancarrow, from Bissoe. Andrew has built and restored many gigs over the years, as well as being a talented rower himself.

Sharp’s has provided a donation of £500 towards a new Doom Bar branded gig cover for Falmouth Pilot Gig Rowing Club. In addition, Sharp’s sponsored the Falmouth Gig Club Regatta with beer and prizes back in June, as well as one of Newquay Rowing Club’s most highly regarded pilot gig races, the Atkinson Race, in August. Port Isaac Rowing Club received £500 towards new jackets, and will take delivery a new gig cover later this year.

Vice-chair of Rock Rowing Club, Lucy Dove, said: “On behalf of all of our members, I would like to say that we are delighted with our new Doom Bar branded oars. They are beautiful and we’re very grateful for the support of our neighbours, Sharp’s Brewery. I know that the teams are very keen to get out and use them for the first time!”

James Nicholls, marketing controller at Sharp’s Brewery, said: “Being surrounded by beautiful coastline, rowing is such an important sport in Cornwall. We’re delighted to be able to support such dedicated local clubs, which often act as the focal point of the communities they are based in. We look forward to seeing Rock’s oars in action!”
