Camborne RFC, in Cornwall, has announced a new partnership with Rock-based Sharp’s Brewery and its flagship beer, Doom Bar.

Following an epic Lions-inspired match, hosted in the summer by the club, Sharp’s Brewery and Camborne have agreed to continue the strong working relationship that the game has created.

As well as a financial support package, Sharp’s, brewer of the UK’s best-selling cask ale, Doom Bar, will ensure that the Camborne RFC team looks fresh for the season with a squad leisure kit as part of the deal. Sharp’s will
also be providing new ground post protectors and flags.

Bill Hussey, president of Camborne RFC, said: “This is our 140th anniversary season and we’re all proud that we are continuing our hard work both behind the scenes and on the pitch.

“We’re also extremely proud that one of Cornwall’s great successes, Sharp’s Brewery, has chosen our ground and our team for a Doom Bar sponsorship, and we’re all looking forward to partnering with this great Cornish brand.

“2017/18 sees a vital push for our Project 2018 fundraising initiative to improve our facilities, and this new support from Sharp’s Brewery allows us to step forward with that appeal.”

He added: “As a club we have worked hard over the past eight years or so to rebuild the facilities after a period of decline. We have done this by achieving a fine balance between investing in the club’s infrastructure and providing for the needs of the playing side. This ongoing partnership with Doom Bar will allow this crucial work to accelerate, which is great news for all involved.”

Sharp’s Brewery’s senior brand manager, James Nicholls, said: “This new sponsorship with Camborne RFC and Doom Bar is a great fit, based on our shared values of dedication, commitment, precision and teamwork, which are required on the field and in the brewhouse.

“Doom Bar has always been a strong supporter of local Cornish rugby, where rugby values are instrumental in helping to develop both individuals and communities. We’re all delighted to be extending this with one of the most successful club sides in the area.”

Doom Bar was the official beer sponsor of the 2017 British & Irish Lions Tour. During that event, Sharp’s recreated the friendly match at Camborne RFC between The British & Irish Lions and the New Zealand, which took place in 1924.
