Sharp’s Brewery teamed up with Padstow-based Beach Guardian Community Interest Company (CIC) for a celebratory beach clean of the Blue Flag and Seaside Award-winning beach, Trevone Bay.

Sharp’s also donated 25 new litter pickers to the Beach Guardian and its volunteers so it can continuekeeping the beach and coastline at Trevone worthy of a Blue Flag.

For the fourth year running, Sharp’s has helped ensure that Cornish beaches are among the best in the world, continually stepping up to ensure the county has more iconic Blue Flags and Seaside Awards flying over the coastline than any other part of the UK.

Trevone Bay holds a Blue Flag and Seaside Award and was voted Cornwall’s best award-winning beach in a public poll held by Cornwall Live earlier this year. Trevone’s applications are filed by the town mayor and councillor of the Trevone Ward, Richard Higman.

Beach Guardian CIC is run by father and daughter team Rob and Emily Stevenson, who organise beach cleans with the support of dedicated volunteers around the county.

In addition to this, at the end of this year they will have educated more than 5,000 school children, businesses and individuals on reducing the amount of unnecessary plastics and how to recycle more.

Amazing community

Rob said: “We have an amazing community that is proud of our beautiful beaches. This can be recognised through Trevone Bay achieving the world-renowned Blue Flag status again this year.

“We’re very grateful to Sharp’s Brewery for assisting with the application of the Blue Flag and Seaside Awards, and for highlighting the work of amazing individuals such as town mayor and councillor Richard Higman that may otherwise go unnoticed.”

Emily added: “The generous donation of 25 new litter pickers from Sharp’s Brewery is so greatly received and will allow us to gather groups with more than 50 people on the same clean.

“We have seven cleans planned around Cornwall for the remainder of 2018, and no doubt there will be many more to come in 2019. A massive thanks to Sharp’s Brewery for supporting us in our quest to keep Cornish beaches amongst the best in the world.”

James Nicholls, senior brand manager at Sharp’s Brewery, said: “With our brewery situated just a mile from the coast at Rock, our beaches and coastline are so important to us. It’s fantastic to support groups like the Beach Guardian CIC, who do a tremendous job of helping to keep beaches and the coastline clean.

“We’re looking forward to continuing our support of this and other beach clean initiatives that are often run tirelessly by amazing volunteer groups.”
