Colleagues from Sharp’s Brewery are set to, quite literally, step up their own personal efforts to raise much-needed funds for the Cornwall Air Ambulance.

Every year the Air Ambulance attends around 1,000 critical care missions, delivering fast and effective emergency care to patients in their moment of need. Over the years, Sharp’s has been a consistent and committed sponsor and partner.

The Air Ambulance relies on the generosity of community groups, individuals, and businesses to help raise the £4.5 million a year it needs to conduct its vital work.

In 2019, Sharp’s was the first major appeal sponsor for the New Heli Appeal with its donation of £10,000. Prior to that, the Rock-based brewery supported the life-saving charity for more than six years, providing beer for fundraising events and taking part in fundraising activity.

This year, seven colleagues from departments across the business are set to climb 1,085m up Mount Snowdon in Wales, and back down again, at night. The team are already training hard in the run-up to the trek, which will take place in early August. They will be sharing their personal stories on Sharp’s social media in the coming weeks.

Communications manager, Rachel Williams, said: “Being based in such a rural location, we are very aware of the vital service the air ambulance provides — a service that we all hope we’ll never need, but are so grateful to have.

Proud and excited

“We have a number of employees who owe their health to the quick response of the air ambulance, after incidents ranging from a terrifying surfing injury to a road traffic accident and a heart attack. With this trek we hope to build on our previous support and say thanks to the charity to which so many owe their lives.”

The team of seven are aiming to raise £2,000 before making the climb in early August. The challenge, run by Global Adventure Challenges, is not for the faint hearted and will see the team trekking 9.5 miles by torchlight up Snowdon, the highest mountain in England and Wales.

Rachel added: “We appreciate it’s been a challenging year for many financially, but with a very busy summer season ahead the air ambulance will potentially be more in demand than ever, so they really need our support right now.

“We are really proud and excited to be taking on this challenge and raising as much as we possibly can for this vital charity, so if you are able to donate even a small amount to help us on the way to our target, we’d be very grateful. And we’ll raise a glass to you after the trek!”
