Durham community pub, The Woodman Inn, is inviting locals to its first ever Caribbean-themed rum festival on Saturday (August 18).

Rum is rapidly gaining popularity as a spirit for summer, and licensees Sean and Jean Quilty are encouraging guests to dress for the occasion in their best pirate and princess fancy dress!

In celebration of the beautiful Caribbean, popular speciality rum brand Old J will be hosting its own swash-buckling pirate bar in the Woodman’s pub garden.

A huge variety of rum-based cocktails and samples will be available to try, with a Caribbean-style barbecue also on offer.

Along with great food and drink, guests can also look forward to entertainment from acoustic singer Larry Page, and plenty of reggae music to get the party started.

Sean said“We’re excited to be launching a brand new rum and Caribbean-inspired festival for the first time. We’re keen to build on the success of this year’s annual Beer and Bangers festival, where we hosted over 500 guests in July, and offer something different and unique to our locals that truly speaks summer.”

Stephen Birkett, business development manager at pub company partner, Admiral Taverns, added: “I’m pleased to see Sean and Jane launching their second event for the summer, especially given the great weather we’ve had so far! They are bringing a taste of the Caribbean to Durham and we look forward to a fantastic day with some great food, drink and wacky costumes.”
