A new book sees beer writer Jane Peyton distil the rich history of the nation’s favourite beverage, going back 13,000 years.

Philosophy of Beer

In The Philosophy of Beer, Jane charts the drink’s history through its central role in monasteries and aboard naval ships, to its enduring popularity today. The book is illustrated with beautiful engravings and posters from the British Library collections.

Jane is an award-winning writer and alcoholic drinks expert, and a regular host of beer tasting events. She is the UK’s first accredited pommelier (cider sommelier) and principal of the School of Booze.

Jane is also the author of a number of books, including The Philosophy of Gin, published by the British Library in August 2020.
